Cathy was absolutely wonderful. She is a special person filled with positivity, joy, and compassion. Not only did she help mom with the physical needs she was having at the time, but also was a friend, confidant, and counselor to keep her mentally, emotionally, and spiritually on track. My family and I often remarked on the blessing she was to our situation while mom got back on her feet.
The day Cathy left was a bittersweet say the least. We were happy that mom was able to be more self-sufficient but sad to see a new friend moving on to help and bless others. Mom’s HAPPY!! We’re HAPPY!! Three months ago, I didn’t think this would be possible, but, thanks to Always An Angel, everyone here is HAPPY!!
When I contacted you, we were on the verge of looking for an alternate living situation. Your experience with this sort of thing, and assurances that you would select the perfect aide for Mom, seemed to be what we were looking for. But Mom was not convinced that she needed care from anyone other than me…that is, until she met Lucille.
Lucille walked into our lives like a breath of fresh air. She sat down and chatted with Mom as if they had been old friends. They discussed their mutual love of books and going to the library. They talked about shopping and their children and as we watched, Lucille began to prepare Mom’s breakfast. Before she knew what was happening, Mom had transferred her trust to Lucille.
They began to go places together, and Lucille managed to get her to go to the Senior Center for an exploratory trip. They now go there several times a week and Mom can take her beloved Art classes and has become interested in other activities there. They shop, go to the library and out to lunch. They get their hair and nails done. Lucille treats her like a friend, rather than a client, and it has made a big difference in Mom.
Over the past months, Mom’s condition has had its ups and downs, and Lucille takes them in stride. She can redirect Mom’s attention in a kind and supportive manner. She never calls attention to Mom’s problems and manages to get her to laugh at mistakes she may make. Mom has her dignity back because of Lucille, and I find that watching how she acts with Mom teaches me how to become calmer and more respectful in difficult situations that come up.
I know that in the future, Mom’s needs will increase, and when they do, I am confident that you and Always an Angel will be there to help define and meet those needs. I can’t thank you enough for Lucille…our own Personal Angel!
